When you drop a car off at a different location, the rental company must eventually drive it back. To cover this logistical cost, they charge a "One-Way Drop Fee". This fee varies wildly depending on the distance and the company.
The classic Andalusian road trip. Very common, so drop fees are usually reasonable.
A longer journey. Due to the distance, you can expect a higher drop fee.
Driving up the coast. Requires booking with major national brands like Centauro or Record Go.
Most companies allow you to cross the border into Portugal, but you must pay a "Cross-Border Fee" (usually €30-€50). However, dropping the car off in Portugal (e.g., Faro or Lisbon) is often prohibited or incurs massive fees (€300+).
